SDG&E to offer $1,000 electric car rebates for teachers, first responders

By Coalition of Energy Users

San Diego Gas & Electric will grant $1,000 rebates to teachers and first-responders who buy electric vehicles, the utility announced Wednesday.

Under the initiative, called “Champions for Clean Air,” SDG&E will provide rebates at the point of sale for new electric vehicles (EVs) purchased or leased by K-12 teachers, members of police and fire departments, and sheriff’s deputies, lifeguards and emergency medical technicians.

“They are really the bedrock of our community,” said Caroline Winn, chief operating officer at SDG&E. “They are helping save lives and inspiring children every day and we couldn’t think of a better opportunity to thank them, a small token, for what they do day in and day out.”
